Me again...

It's been nearly a week since I blogged last but it doesn't seem like it! This week has been a busy lot of days, speaking to a local gallery, researching and purchasing some new items for my shop (coming very soon!), sorting sales from my shop and starting to design a classroom workshop after being asked by a local school if I would like to share my work and mixed media techniques with groups of children! :D

Amongst all this activity I had the opportunity to visit the Derbyshire countryside and photograph the beautiful flowers (a theme seems to be roses!) I also stopped by a small village pond and these little fellas came to say 'hello!"

It's set to be another warm week, with a possible heatwave (temperatures up to 30 which is not usual here!) Hopefully it'll stay nice until the weekend so I can go take some more photos!

Happy Monday!

Phew!

This last week has been hectic! A major event was my Degree Show finishing and leaving University for good! Below is a photograph from Derby University's website showing a small snapshot of the Visual Communication Show (Incorporating Illustration. Graphic Design and Animation)

Aside from celebrating with friends and family, the week was also full of things happening for the development of my business. My website is well on the way and is being designed by the lovely Ria of poppyandme - go check her shop out! Also, I have been working on some new prints (more of that in a later post) and I have begun putting together a marketing pack with a view to contacting various businesses about the possibility of stocking my prints.

And, unsurprisingly, I have also been out and about with my camera again...

Summer

I love the summertime for two reasons...1 the weather normally improves and 2 it gives me the opportunity to go for long walks in the countryside and gather photographs to use in my work. This last weekend was no exception, I managed to collect lots of pictures to help inspire me...

I strolled around a local lake in the evening and tried to capture the fantastic reflections on the water. It was so still it looked like a huge mirror.

The sky has been a lovely blue recently, a reminder that Summer is indeed here for now! Speaking of summer, the lovely Sarah K of sarahkdesigns very kindly included one of my prints in her Summer treasury on Etsy, go check it out here!

A fantastic trip and a crafty experience

I'm back from a very sunny trip to Yorkshire (one of my most favourite places to visit, ever) I thought I'd share with you some of the loveliness :)

Beautiful views across the beach looking across to Robin Hood's Bay.

I love boats by the sea. This particular photo is my favourite from the beach. I love the blue paint and the flags blowing in the wind.

The trip was full of beautiful sights and sounds and the photo above is just one example of some of these.

I can't wait to go back again!

As promised, I also wanted to tell you about some of the workshops I have been to. In July last year I attended a creative class entitled 'Particle Article Sculptures' run by the very talented sisters Claire Benson and Amy Nightingale. The class was run from The Beetroot Tree, a lovely gallery and cafe. I spent the day creating my own unique winged sculpture using recycled and found materials. It was great fun! Here is an example of their many creatures

The one above is called 'The River Kent God' I think their work is truly fantastic, very quirky and each creature is accompanied with a little description of its name, home and activities.
I think classes like this are great for getting the creative juices flowing - I hope to attend other workshops like this in the near future.
